Squires Gate maintained their good start to the season with a 3-0 win against 1874 Northwich.

It was the visitors who started the first half the better without testing Gate keeper Ben Fletcher in the opening exchanges.

Matthew Beadle had the ball in the net for Northwich after 23 minutes but his effort was ruled out for offside.

Gate went close twice as Andrew Richards’ free-kick was tipped over and the resulting corner cleared with Ben Reader looking to score.

As the first half went on, Gate started to control the game more with Brett Dawson cleverly turning and shooting just wide.

With the game goalless at half-time, Gate opened the scoring five minutes into the second half as keeper Matthew Green mishit his clearance straight to Ryan Charnley, who rolled the ball into the net.

Dawson, whose closing down forced the first goal, came close when his shot was cleared off the line before Gate doubled their lead.

Green saw red after being deemed to have blocked a man, giving Gate a penalty which Dawson scored.

The visitors saw a penalty appeal for handball waved away before Gate scored again in added time as Joey Mullen’s shot was parried by stand-in keeper Matt Woolley and Finley Clarkson netted.

Squires Gate: Fletcher, Richards, Reader, Rossall, Kay, Gray, Tanner, Boyd, Riley, Dawson, Charnley. Subs: Mullen, Clarkson, Salthouse, Jones, Bamba.
