Slocombe vow to keep complacency at bay

The Tangerines are now back in the League Two play-off spots after their dramatic 1-0 win at Doncaster Rovers on Easter Monday.

Although their run-in looks favourable, with two of their three remaining games at home to bottom four sides Cheltenham and Leyton Orient, Slocombe has warned his team-mates not to get ahead of themselves.

“It’s a great three points but that’s all it is,” he said. “We can’t get too carried away as we’ve got another three cup finals really and the next one is the main one for us.

“But it’s a good feeling to know we’ve beaten Doncaster twice in the league now. I don’t think there are many teams that have done that.

“But the important thing for us now is to focus on the next game. We can’t look behind and we can’t look too far forward.

“Football has a habit of spinning things around and if you take the foot off the gas it can be nasty to you.”

Blackpool snatched all three points at the Keepmoat Stadium in the most dramatic of circumstances, with Jordan Flores converting a penalty in the last minute, just two minutes after Mark Cullen had missed his own spot-kick.

Slocombe added: “We’ve come here and ground it out really in the first half. They were very good on the ball but second half a bit of fortune has gone our way with the sending-off.

“I do think it was two yellows, but unfortunately the lad (Matty Blair) seemed to be a bit distressed and took a bit of a head injury.

“We’ve taken advantage of that and put on quite a professional performance against 10 men because it’s not always easy. So credit to Doncaster – they didn’t make it easy.

“I think the last few minutes of the game sums up our season up to now. It was a clear handball for the first penalty – I could see it from where I was.

“I think it’s a top save from Marko Marosi. I’ve not watched it back, but my first instinct at the time was he’s got a touch on it and put it onto the post.

“And then for Jordan to stand up and say, ‘I want this’ is great. He showed great composure to put it away.”
