Slocombe: Our focus is only on the next game

The Seasiders returned to the top seven in dramatic fashion on Easter Monday when they beat league leaders Doncaster Rovers courtesy of a last minute penalty from Jordan Flores.

They now have just three games remaining, starting with a home game against Cheltenham Town on Saturday, to clinch a play-off spot.

But Slocombe, who was in fine form against Doncaster, insists their next game is the only thing that matters.

“The next game is the most important, we can’t look beyond that and we can’t look at what others are doing,” he said.

“It is a good thing it is in our own hands but we can’t look too far forward. We have to focus on the next game.

“That’s the most important game of the season right now and hopefully, touch wood, we’ve come in at times and put on performances when the pressure has been on.

“In the dressing room I didn’t feel as though there was pressure on this game against Doncaster and I didn’t feel that kind of sense among the lads.

“It felt like we were coming here to be very focused on what we want to do. Especially after half time because it gave us a little bit more confidence, although I wouldn’t say we lacked it in the first half.

“Maybe that extra split second we had on the ball allowed us to show it.

“Last couple of minutes we gave a couple of silly fouls away that invited them to put the ball into our box but we defended it resolutely like we did for the rest of the game.”
