Skipper Ryan's best wishes to Delfouneso after sickening injury

The 27-year-old received treatment from paramedics for more than seven minutes before being taken to hospital with suspected concussion.

The forward left hospital on Tuesday night and has since been recovering at home.

Ryan said of the head clash: “It was disgusting. I was only a few yards away and it’s not nice to see two lads go down like that, especially when you’re so close.

“It’s not nice to see whether it’s the opposition or your own player. But it’s even worse when it’s a good lad like Delf.

“All our thoughts are with Delf. We hope he’s okay and it’s nothing too serious. Hopefully he has a speedy recovery.”

The incident happened just 20 minutes into a fixture Pool won courtesy of Ryan’s stoppage-time strike – their first home victory in more than five months.

It was exactly what the Seasiders deserved for a dominant display and Ryan added: “I don’t think I’ve ever taken so many corners in one game before.

“We were on the front foot all game and we dominated the play. We deserved the three points.

“If anyone thought any different, then I’d have to disagree. It was a justified win for the lads. I’m just delighted I could help out.

“I don’t get many goals, so I’m glad it was me; but if it had been anyone else, even an own goal, it was deserved. It was just a massive three points.

“I’ve been getting closer to scoring in training but still not that close.

“I was going to take a touch but I just thought I’d give it a crack. Luckily I caught it well and it went in.

“We haven’t scored a last-minute winner all season, so it was nice to get that as well as the three points, which are crucial at this stage of the season.”

Ryan’s goal, only his second of the season, came after the midfielder was forced to wear a ‘lucky suit’ ahead of the game.

The 29-year-old explained: “I had to wear a suit because I got voted a bad trainer apparently. It’s just one of those things – something was bound to happen.

“It was also the first game my dad has ever missed. He was watching it abroad on a laptop, so I was delighted he could still see me score.”
