Fleetwood's management and fans feared the worst when the right back was helped from the field just before half time in Saturday's 2-1 win over Scunthorpe.

He twisted his knee making a challenge on the edge of the box, sliding on the heavy and sodden Highbury surface.

Boss Steven Pressley is relieved the injury has far less serious than initially thought and hopes the defender will make a swift recovery

"Conor is better than we first feared," he said.

"The chances are he'll be back in not to large a timescale.

"He might be seven to 10 days which is really pleasing.

"We're relieved for that, we're relieved for the player.

"Fingers crossed there's no setbacks."

McLaughlin's isn't the only good news for Pressley with Nathan Pond also on track to smash the initial six to eight week diagnosis for his hamstring complaint.

Town's skipper could be set to return soon thanks in no part, says Pressley, to his outstanding attitude and determination.

"Nathan Pond is making really good progress," said Pressley.

"Our initial fear was six to eight weeks but it looks like being less than that which is really good news.

"That's partly down to the mentality of the player.

"He's really keen to get back and he's pushing himself on a daily basis."

Fleetwood's injury crisis finally looks to be easing with Joe Davis set to travel to Rochdale tomorrow after three weeks sidelined.

"Joe Davis will be involved in the squad," Pressley revealed.

"It might just come too quick but we'll make the decision based on what we have available."
