Seasiders remain a work in progress

Sam Slocombe says things are now starting to click for the Seasiders but insists they are far from the finished article.

Pool are on a run of eight wins in their last 10 games including the penalty shootout victories in the Checkatrade Trophy against Everton Under-21s and Doncaster.

The run of form has seen Gary Bowyer’s men climb up to eighth in the League Two table, just a point off the play-offs, after an inconsistent start to the season saw them at the wrong end of the table.

But Slocombe believes things are now starting to click.

“We’re on a good run of form,” he said. “The lads were disappointed and frustrated after the defeat against Mansfield, but we’ve come back well.

“Our response to defeats has been really positive and that’s been a key part of our recent results.

“There’s a great atmosphere around the dressing room and the club at the minute, which can only stand you in good stead.”

Blackpool face another side in good form in Stevenage on Saturday, a club who are just one position behind Pool in the league table having won four of their last six games.

Slocombe added: “Sometimes form can be a bit false because you can win games you shouldn’t. You look at the form table and sometimes you look at sides and think they’re on fire because they’re picking up results, but in fact it’s the performances which are key.

“Other than two, maybe three games this season, our performances have been really good. As a dressing room we’ve known that.”

Slocombe, who has been an ever-present in goal for Blackpool this season aside from a short spell out through injury, says Bowyer has created a positive atmosphere around the club which has had a similar effect.

He said: “We’ve pinpointed where we have been going wrong in games where we’ve played well and not got something out of it, and we’re trying to work on that.

“Recently, it looks as though things are slowly piecing themselves together. That’s not to say we’re the finished article, because we’re not. But everyone in the dressing room knows we’re working to be even better.

“We’re satisfied with how we’re performing and the atmosphere around the club.”
