Having trailed, Gate had equalised and looked set to pick up a valuable point, only for Lewis Buckley to win the game in the 88th minute.

Rylands went close to opening the scoring when Kane Drummond had all the time in the world but fired wide under pressure.

Jordan Gidley was also quickly off his line to deny the hosts an opening goal, though Luke Holden came close to breaking the deadlock at the other end.

Having sent one volley over the bar, he saw a header kept out superbly by Rylands’ keeper Michael Emery.

Rylands’ shot-stopper then clawed the resulting corner into the path of Cameron Gourley, whose shot was blocked and then cleared.

James Boyd saw his effort saved by Emery before Rylands scored with half-time approaching, Freddie Potter turning the ball home.

Trailing 1-0 at the break, Gate introduced Nana Adarkwa for Ryan Dodd and he made an instant impact, turning inside the area but shooting at the keeper.

Nevertheless, the second half was a much better display from Gate.

They equalised on 75 minutes when Jake Higham burst forward and found Adarkwa inside the box.

The winger turned and chipped the ball over the keeper, and although it looked to be going in, Dean Ing made sure for his 14th goal of the season.

It looked like Gate would be picking up a good point on the road but, with two minutes left, Buckley dinked the ball over Gidley for the winner.

Gate will look to get back to winning ways next weekend when they host Litherland Remyca.
