Rosler reveals new points target for Fleetwood

Fleetwood boss Uwe Rosler has revealed his new minimum points target with 10 games of an already historic season to go '“ and he says Town will not stop once they have hit it.

Rosler sat down with his players and staff to set a new goal after they surpassed his second target of overtaking the club’s highest- ever League One points tally with the 2-0 win at Scunthorpe.

Town failed to add to their current 64-point haul on Saturday, when they lost 4-2 to promotion rivals Bolton, but Rosler says 74 points is their new achievable target.

The reasoning behind the new figure is that 74 was the total needed to finish sixth in three of the last five League One seasons.

Swindon Town (2012-13), Peterborough (2013-14) and Barnsley (2015-16) all hit that magic number to secure the last play-off spot.

Chesterfield needed just 69 points to seal sixth in 2014-15 and Stevenage required 73 to make the play-offs in 2011-12.

Town are still second in the table after that first league defeat for four months and they head to Walsall tonight, when their promotion rivals are also in action.

Rosler hopes his men can pick up the 10 points they require sooner rather than later, but he hinted that when Town hit that number they will look even further up.

He said: “We agreed on 74 points. Statistically that gives you a great opportunity to be where we want to be.

“I think that is achievable with 10 games to go.

“And when we have them – and I hope we get them soon – we will see what happens after that.

“Then we will move on again like we did before. Every time we achieve a target, then we look even further up.”
