Town have a chance to reach the third round and a potential tie against Premier League opposition in January if they can get past League One rivals Shrewsbury at Greenhous Meadow tomorrow.

Rosler guided Wigan to the semi-finals of the competition after beating his beloved Manchester City side 1-0 in the 2013-14 season.

The Latics narrowly missed out on a place in the final, the Championship side drawing 1-1 with Arsenal after extra-time only to lose 4-2 on penalties.

And in his debut season in England with Manchester City in 1994-95, striker Rosler became the first player to score four for the club in an FA Cup tie since Johnny Hart in 1953 – Rosler netted all but one in the 5-2 win over Notts County at Maine Road.

Rosler said: “I never made a secret out of it, the FA Cup is the competition I value as importantly as the league.

I have great memories as a player, great memories as a coach.

“We did it the hard way against Southport in the first round (winning a replay in extra-time) and we want to make it count.

“Our aim from the first day to still to be in the cup in January and hopefully we can achieve that.”
