Rosler relishes Fleetwood's second chance to earn Robins tie

Town will replay against League One rivals Shrewsbury at Highbury next Tuesday (7.45pm) after Saturday’s second-round tie ended goalless.

The winners will head to Ashton Gate on the first weekend of 2017, and Rosler says next week’s extra fixture will be another chance for some squad members who have not been starting matches regularly to show him what they are made of.

He said: “We have now another game, another possibility for players who have not started so many games to be in the frame.

“We are playing at home and fancy ourselves to get in the next round.”

Paul Hurst’s Shrews gave a better account of themselves at Greenhous Meadow than they had just 11 days earlier at Highbury, where David Ball scored twice in Town’s 3-0 League One win.

Fleetwood’s wing-backs, including goalscorer Conor McLaughlin, had a ball that night, though the Shrews managed to tame them on their own turf.

Rosler gave credit to the opposition but also praised his own his side’s fighting spirit as a clean sheet stretched their unbeaten run to five games.

He added:“We have to give the opposition credit – they were stronger than they were at Highbury.

“They were organised and certain (Fleetwood) players did not affect the game as much as they did in the last three games, but that can happen.

“I’m happy that after half-time certain players showed a reaction, fought their way back into the game and dealt with what came in front of them.

“The way we started was unusual for us because normally we start games very convincingly and sometimes have minutes in between when we slide off a bit.

“But this time we started the game in a way I have not seen but we learned from it, stayed in the game and earned ourselves a replay.”
