REACTION: Bowyer aggrieved at penalty decision

Blackpool manager Gary Bowyer felt his side warranted a late penalty in his side's 0-0 draw against Bristol Rovers.

Substitute Armand Gnanduillet appeared to be brought down in the penalty area with 88 minutes on the clock when he nipped the ball past a Bristol Rovers defender, but referee Martin Coy waved away the appeals.

It meant Bowyer's men had to settle for a point despite edging the game between two evenly matched sides at Bloomfield Road.

The Pool boss was satisfied with how his side went about it but was left to rue the referee's late call.

“It was a battling game," Bowyer said.

"I thought we came out first half and did ever so well in terms of how we played. We tried a new system and it worked for us, although the principles were exactly the same as they were before.

“We just didn’t quite show enough care first half. We got into a couple of great positions but Sean Longstaff snatched at his effort, Sessi D’Almeida snatched at his, Colin Daniel also snatched at his.

“That was a little bit how we were first half.

MATCH REPORT: Blackpool 0-0 Bristol Rovers

“Second half we’ve got to give credit to Bristol Rovers because they nullified our new shape and then for us, it’s important when you’re not as fluent to keep the back door shut and keep a clean sheet and we managed to do that.

“You look at the opportunity of the 2v1 where you have Sessi and Nathan (Delfouneso) break but Sessi just overruns it.

“There was a great shout for a penalty which I’ve looked back at and I don’t know how it’s not been given.

“But we’ve only had one penalty this season so it’s probably not surprised me that much.

“To summarise that, I think we’ve played well. We did well in patches and played out football but we just lacked that care in the final third.”
