Price of Football: Pool tickets among highest in League Two

The cost of a matchday ticket at Bloomfield Road is among the highest in League Two, figures have revealed.

The BBC Sport Price of Football study, which is in its sixth year, compares the cost of entry, programmes, pies and a cup of tea at 176 grounds across Britain.

And it has shown that Blackpool’s lowest matchday ticket price of £22 is the joint highest in League Two along with Leyton Orient and Notts County.

However, while Barnet’s lowest ticket price is £19, its highest is £25 which is said to be its most popular ticket.

In contrast, Pool’s most expensive matchday ticket is £27, second only to Colchester United (£29).

Blackpool’s cheapest season ticket is priced at £220, while the dearest is £375.

The club does, however, offer several incentives such as half season tickets and four and six-match packages.

The cheapest season ticket in League Two is offered by Leyton Orient at £190, while the most expensive comes at Cheltenham at £414.

A pie at Bloomfield Road costs just £2.50, which is the joint lowest in League Two. A cup of tea costs £2 and a programme a further £2, while a replica shirt costs £40.

A standard adult seat now costs £22, a reduction of £3, while tickets for over-60s and under-19s have been cut by £2 to £18 and £10 respectively.

Those taking out a club membership can buy discounted tickets, while members under-11 gain free admission with a paying adult.

As for Fleetwood, they say they are looking at ways to make football more affordable as it was revealed they offer one of the lowest priced season ticket deals and half-time teas in League One.

Town are just behind Bradford City (£149) and Charlton (£175) offering their cheapest season ticket for £210 which is over £70 under the league average of £283.07 with the dearest season ticket priced at £550 by Charlton.

But Town also have an offer that sees Under-16s receive free entry under a £20 membership scheme, which effectively is a season ticket for youngsters for £20. and are in the top 10 lowest prices in every category from junior shirt price to pies.

Town’s £1.50 tea was equalled by Bristol Rovers, AFC Wimbledon, Port Vale and Rochdale but only topped by Scunthorpe and Bury’s £1.20 offer.

A club spokesman said: “We are pleased to see that our season ticket prices are among the lowest in League One.

“We want to make football as affordable as possible.

“We have a number of things in place including a £20 membership scheme and next season we will be looking at more ways to keep it as affordable as possible.”
