Grayson was appointed as head coach of the Cod Army on Sunday and has quickly had to get to grips with things as he was thrust into transfer window deadline day.

Grayson spent all of Monday at the club, working on incomings and outgoings. His focus was more on the former, though he is happy with his squad on the whole.

The 51-year-old was actually working in the media when he was announced as Fleetwood's new head coach and was covering a game between two of his former sides, Leicester City and Leeds United.

Grayson said: “It’s been very much a whirlwind scenario. I know I’ve been in football a long time but from meeting Andy (Pilley, chairman) on Sunday morning, then driving over to Leeds to cover the Leeds-Leicester game for Sky, then back onto the phone trying to do deadline deals all day yesterday to finishing at home at half past 10 then back in at half past seven on Tuesday - it’s been a real whirlwind trying to meet lots of new people here.

“One good thing is that I know lots of people at Fleetwood, as in behind the scenes. Stephen Crainey played at Blackpool, Baz Nicholson I’ve known a long time, David Lucas was at Leeds with me. There are lots of people that I know.

“It’s been really nice to get back to work and to get back amongst it.”
