Pool's Matt backed to find the net

Jamille Matt will break his duck for the Seasiders according to strike partner Kyle Vassell

The former Fleetwood man is yet to score for the Seasiders after signing on a two-year deal during the summer.

The 27-year-old, who comes up against his former side Kidderminster Harriers in the first round of the FA Cup on Sunday, has struggled for starts and has made most of his appearances from the bench.

However, after coming into the side to replace Armand Gnanduillet, Matt has failed to net in his last three games – all of which he’s started.

His strike partner Kyle Vassell has enjoyed contrasting fortunes, with his brace against Cheltenham taking him to the top of the club’s scoring charts.

Vassell, who has bagged eight in all competitions, is confident the goals will come for Matt.

“He’s working hard and he had two good chances (against Cheltenham), it will come for Jamille”, he said.

“You see it every day in training and he’s a goalscorer. I’ve been in that position as well so I know what it feels like.

“He’s just got to keep believing and working hard and I am 100 per cent it will come for him.”

Matt scored seven goals in 14 games while on loan at Plymouth Argyle last season in a spell which ended in defeat in the play-off final.

He also enjoyed a prolific spell at Kidderminster, scoring 22 times in 39 starts.

Vassell, meanwhile, took all the plaudits for an impressive display in last weekend’s 2-2 draw at Cheltenham.

“The goals were scored at crucial times,” Vassell added. “We started the second half well and we got the goal early on.

“It was a great ball from Pottsy (for his first goal). You can’t miss chances like that because the ball was so good.”

Vassell could have even added to his tally had he not been thwarted by a superb stop by Cheltenham stopper Russell Griffiths.

The former Peterborough man added: “It was a great save from the goalkeeper.

“In that position all you can do is head it down and across the goal like you’re taught as a kid. To be fair I did that and he’s still made a great save.

“He’s also made a great save from Jamille early on so he’s had a great afternoon.”

A clearly frustrated Vassell insisted it is now time Blackpool turned their positive performances into regular wins.

He said: “Getting those wins is all we’re looking to do. Every day the gaffer is working us hard to get us there and we know what we’ve got to do. These games will turns into wins, they have to.”
