Pool linked to midfielder O'Connor

Blackpool have been linked with a swoop for midfielder Michael O'Connor following his release by Port Vale.

Notts County are also chasing the 28-year-old former Crewe player, who has picked up 11 caps for Northern Ireland but was not on Michael O’Neill’s radar for his Euro 16 squad.

The Fylde coast could be a journey too far for O’Connor, who reportedly turned down a new deal at Vale Park due to the two-hour commute from his Lincoln base.

O’Connor played 90 minutes in both last season’s League One games between Vale and Pool, both won by the Potteries side.

He was named player of the year in the first of his two seasons at Vale Park.

Gary Bowyer is yet to make his first signing as Blackpool manager a fortnight after taking the job but he has arranged a third friendly.

Pool will visit National League Tranmere on Tuesday, July 26 (7.45pm).

The Prenton Park club are managed by Gary Brabin, the Pool midfielder of the 1990s.

The Seasiders have also confirmed home matches against Bowyer’s former club Blackburn (July 23) and Bury (July 30). Both Saturday matches have 3pm kick-offs.
