Bowyer says he has no interest in studying the league table

The Seasiders are just three points off the play-offs with nine games left of the League Two campaign ahead of tomorrow’s visit to Newport County.

But speaking after the 1-0 win against Stevenage on Tuesday night, the Pool boss was keen to play down the importance of the games left between now and the end of the season.

“You boys are the only ones who dress things up as must wins and vital wins,” he said.

“We know we have to play 46 games in the season and there’s three points for a win, one point for a draw and nothing for a defeat.

“So whether it’s game one, game 36 or game 46, it’s still the same to us. It’s you boys who put all the fluffy stuff on it.

“I don’t look at it (the league table) at the start. We only look at it when we need to.”

Bowyer: No time frame for Vassell return

One man who has impressed in between the sticks in recent weeks is Dean Lyness, who has three consecutive clean sheets to his name having recently stood in for the injured Sam Slocombe.

“That’s three clean sheets on the trot and he made some great saves against Stevenage,” Bowyer added.

“It's a great effort from everybody. People will obviously praise Dean Lyness and the back four but we speak about the whole team effort, attacking and defending, and that was on show again. The pressing we did, first-half especially, was terrific.

“It’s not just the goalkeeper, we defend from the front and attack as a team as well.

“Dean has come in and made a couple of good saves in every game and competition for places is exactly what I’ve wanted ever since coming in and that will never change.

“Sam (Slocombe) has got to put the pressure back on Deano but Deano currently has the shirt. That’s the same for all the players.”
