Pond, 32, has already been promoted with Fleetwood seven times and is eyeing another historic promotion to the second tier of English football as Town enter the final month of the season third in League One and six points behind second-placed Bolton.

And Pond, returning from a knee injury which sidelined him for 10 weeks, says Town will keep fighting as they host Swindon tomorrow in the first of seven games in a potentially life-changing April.

He said: “We have done it together but I don’t really think about the bigger picture at the moment – I just take each game as it comes.

“Anything can happen in these seven games. We are trying to chase teams down but teams are trying to chase us down too.

“Teams can feel the pressure – some are playing to stay in the league, some are playing for the play-offs.

“We’ve got some tough games coming up and they (Bolton) some tough games. It is not over yet and as long as there is a chance we will keep going. It is a fantastic achievement but it is not over yet.”

Pond was part of the Fleetwood side that just survived the drop on the final day of last term and the skipper credits head coach Uwe Rosler, who replaced Steven Pressley just days before the season began, for the turnaround.

The defender said: “After last season I don’t think anyone involved at Fleetwood expected us to be were we are now, but we are there for a reason – because the manager has come in and has been fantastic.

“We’ve done really well and have seven more games to get over the line; if we don’t, then we concentrate on the play-offs.”

Pond says he might not be able to complete 90 minutes just yet as he recovers from a knee injury sustained in the 3-1 win over Bristol Rovers in January.

He said: “If called upon I will start the game but I don’t think I’ve got 90 minutes in me yet.

“I think that was only my third training session on Thursday, but I had 45 minutes (in a development squad game) against Preston and if called upon I will be ready.”
