Pond ready for another reunion with Sarcevic and Brown

Fleetwood captain Nathan Pond says former-team mate Antoni Sarcevic was happy with his reception from the Cod Army when he returned with Shrewsbury last week.

Sarcevic who scored Town’s Wembley winner in the League Two play-off final in 2014, left the club in the summer to join their League One rivals.

The midfielder has struggled to get regular game time in recent weeks and made a late cameo off the bench at Highbury last Tuesday.

Now Pond is looking forward to facing him and another old team-mate Junior Brown, who was part of the Fleetwood squad promoted to the Football League in 2012.

Pond said: “I speak to Sarce quite a bit. He was excited to come back to Fleetwood.

“He’s been on the bench there since the new manager (Paul Hurst) has come in.

“When he came on last week he never got near me because we play in different positions and are not up against each other.

“But I spoke to him after the game and he said he was happy with the response he got from the crowd. He enjoyed coming back and says he is looking forward to the cup game because he will be involved.

“We play them in the New Year as well, so hopefully we’ll get this result done and dusted, then focus on the next game.

“Junior is a very good player if his mind is right. We all know he likes to sulk but he is a very talented player and we will have to keep an eye out for him.”
