Pond: Players unfazed by Rosler rumours

Fleetwood Town skipper Nathan Pond says the speculation linking head coach Uwe Rosler with a move away from the club has not fazed the players ahead of tomorrow's Highbury clash with Swindon.

Rosler took a leaf out of controversial American President Donald Trump’s book by slamming speculation linking him with the vacant managerial hot-seat at Championship side Norwich as ‘fake news’.

Rosler was touted as 1/8 odds-on favourite for the vacancy with Sky Bet earlier this week.

But the German, who has transformed Town from relegation battlers into a top-three League One club since taking charge just days before the start of the season, says he has a year left on his contract and is committed to Town with seven games of the campaign to go.

Pond says the rumours have not disrupted a successful week on the training pitch.

“Business as usual,” said the 32-year-old. “We come in, do our stuff and train. The players hear about it but it is not in our hands. We just keep training, keep playing and keep doing well.”

And Pond, who set a Guinness World Record by winning seven promotions with Town as they climbed from the lower tier of the North West Counties League to League One, says Rosler is up there with the best he has worked with at the club.

Town are third in the table, six points behind Bolton in the second automatic promotion place, but Pond is not ruling out another historic promotion with seven games to play in the final month of the season.

Pond said of head coach Rosler: “He’s up there. All the mangers have been good to me and good for the club.

“They have all done different things for the club at different levels,

“At the moment Uwe Rosler is doing very well. Third in League One is the highest position the club has been in, so he is doing something right!”

And Rosler says he is committed to Town.

He said: “The club is not approached by anybody. I am not approached by anybody – it is fake news.

“Players, staff, coaches, everybody is committed and looking forward to the rest of the season.

“I have another year on contract. Anything else is speculation and that is the last time I comment on that – let’s talk about football.”
