The 29-year-old centre-half only moved to Bloomfield Road in the summer following their promotion back to League One.

However, he found himself behind Clark Robertson and Curtis Tilt in the pecking order with his only appearances coming in the League Cup and Checkatrade Trophy.

He sealed a loan move to Motherwell on deadline day and has since made 17 appearances north of the border.

His loan move has now been made permanent and he has signed a contract until 2020.

"It was a very, very easy decision to make," Hartley told Motherwell's official website.

“I’ve been at this club for six months and it’s a fantastic dressing room, probably one of the best I’ve been in.

"It’s a club that’s trying to move forward and achieve things. I want to be part of that.

“If I am going to be somewhere, it’s all or nothing with me. I am going to give everything I’ve got for two and a half years.

“I have enjoyed every moment. I’ve played at Hampden twice in the semi final and final.

“We went on a good unbeaten run. I’ve made a lot of good friends in the dressing room. I’ve got nothing but good words to say about the coaching staff and everybody around the club.

“It’s just the right place for me in my career right now. I’m happy to commit my future to the club.”
