Oyston: Business as usual despite Belokon's resignation

Chairman Karl Oyston insists Valeri Belokon's resignation as a director will have no impact on the running of Blackpool FC '“ and says it is uncertain whether the Latvian will be replaced on the board.

Asked on BBC Radio Lancashire how Belokon’s departure would affect the club, Oyston replied: “Not in the slightest operationally or day to day.

“Valeri has attended two board meetings in seven years and so could hardly be described as an active board member who had any input into the board’s decision-making. Valeri is represented on the board still by Kaspars Varpins and has been for the past three years.”

He added that a replacement for Belokon on the board would be considered but is not inevitable.

“What is essential for the board is that we don’t upset the good work in repairing some of the damage that has taken place over the past 18 months, keep that staility and make sure that any board members are contributing to the football club running in the proper direction,” he said.

The Blackpool board comprises Karl Oyston, his father Owen, mother Vicki – who is not an active member –, Varpins and long-serving company secretary Rod Dyer.

A representative of the Fans’ Progress Group, though not a director, does attend and contribute to board meetings.

Oyston added: “The key is not the number. It’s about the contribution the members make.

“My view is that if anyone joins they have to be committed to taking the club forward in right direction.”
