Ollie Turton has turned his hand to playing in the centre of the Seasiders midfield

Terry McPhillips takes it one game at a time with Blackpool

While predominantly a right-back, midfield is a position he’s not completely uncomfortable with, having played there previously for Crewe Alexandra.

“I’ve played there in the past,” he said. “Terry (McPhillips) has asked me to do a job there and I’m happy to do it.

“I enjoy it in there. I see more of the ball and I like trying to get on the ball and trying to play.

“Wherever I play there’s always going to be pressure on everybody to play well.

“We’ve got a good squad this year and everyone is wanting to play for a place, so every game you play you’ve got to play to the best of your ability.

“It’s handy I can play in different positions. I will play anywhere, as long as I’m playing I’m happy.

“On the other side, some players do like to have a certain position that they are playing in. But at this moment in time I’m enjoying playing in midfield.”

Turton was in fine form once again as Blackpool drew 0-0 at Walsall on Saturday, a result that saw the Seasiders extend their unbeaten run to six games.

Pool were the better side and had the chances to win the game, but eventually they were forced to settle for a stalemate that means they have yet to concede a league goal away from home.

Turton added: “Walsall set up well and they were hard to break down. We had a lot of the ball, it was just a case of not taking our chances when they came our way. But they didn’t seem to trouble us too much.

“We had done our homework on them and we knew they were a threat on the counter, so we tried to cancel that out. I think we did that really well.

“If we have the ball then they can’t do anything, so we planned to keep the ball as much as possible and frustrate them.

“Everyone was a bit frustrated. Obviously we wanted the three points and we felt like we could have done that had we taken our chances.

“But it’s a point away from home and it could turn out to be a vital point for us.

“We now play Macclesfield in the Checkatrade Trophy which gives a chance for players to play.

“The manager might think it’s a bit of a hindrance but it’s another game and we’ve got to go and try and win it.”
