Sam Slocombe is preparing to face his old club for the first time since his summer exit, having left Blackpool after helping them to League Two play-off final victory.

Slocombe is one of many players to have departed Bloomfield Road since and Blackpool boss Gary Bowyer says there are no hard feelings.

He said: “We know all about Sam, he had a real good season here for us but we both went our different ways.

“We’d offered him a contract and he didn’t quite feel that it was good enough for him and that was fine; he is entitled to that and so it will be good to say hello to him.

“Dean Lyness came in and he had a hell of a run for us but Sam had experience in League Two and getting promoted and he brought that mentality into the group.”

Bowyer watched Rovers’ midweek Carabao Cup exit to Championship side Wolves.

He is aware of the challenge that lies ahead but, with his men on a seven-game unbeaten run, they are heading to Bristol full of confidence.

He said: “I played for Hereford and lived in Hereford and you were made aware of the Bristol clubs then.

“You look at Bristol City and what they have achieved, staying in the Championship and staying in there, Bristol Rovers are geared up for that.

“I’ve heard rumours about new training ground and grounds there so they have got some backing down there and it looks like they are heading in that right direction off the pitch.

“They have got some good players and the way they go about it is good as well.

“We are aware of the challenge that lies ahead but we have got to go there full of confidence and try and perform to the levels we have been performing at and more.”
