New boy: Blackpool move was best for me

The highly-rated midfielder made the move from Derby County yesterday, with the deal – initially a loan – to be made permanent in January.

He will become a Blackpool player on an 18-month contract, with an option for a further year.

Pool were also hoping to die up a second deal yesterday, with a move for MK Dons striker Chuks Aneke rumoured, but the club didn’t manage to get it wrapped up before the 5pm deadline.

However Terry McPhillips will undoubtedly be pleased to keep Curtis Tilt after the defender ended the window a Blackpool player despite strong interest from Ipswich Town.

Guy, who played for Bradford City in their 5-0 defeat to Blackpool last season, can’t wait to get going.

“I’m delighted to make the move,” he said. “I feel it’s a big club with a very big history, so I couldn’t be more delighted to join.

“As soon as I heard about the interest I was very eager to come here and see what it’s all about.

“I’ve got a hint now - the stadium’s looking really good and I’m excited to get started.

“Terry talked very highly of me which I was very happy about, so I just can’t wait to get started and work for him.

“I know a few of the lads who I played against last year when it was a bad day for us, but hopefully I’ll be on the winning team this time.”

Guy, who has been with Derby since he was nine, has predominantly played most of his football for their youth team.

However, he has spent two successful loan spells with Bradford and Port Vale, and he’s well aware the only way he is going to progress is if he plays regular first-team football.

He added: “I think you can only learn so much from U23s football, especially at my age now where I want to get out there and play more and more league football.

“I have done that in two other loan spells but to come out again now is a great opportunity for me.

“I learnt vast amounts from those two spells, you gain so much experience. It’s important to carry on and not stop.

“I want to kick on while I’m ahead. Especially as a young player it means a lot more.

“It’s a challenge I’m looking forward to. It’s never going to be easy just walking into a new squad and expecting to play.

“So it’s going to be very tough for me so I will have to work extra hard in training to get in the team.

“I’m feeling good and I’m ready to play when called upon by the gaffer. I had a little injury but I’ve been training for over a month so I’m raring to go.”
