While at many clubs the role is more of an administration one, at Bloomfield Road it has become key in the set-up.
Chairman Karl Oyston tasks the role with handling some transfer negotiations, club policy and key day-to-day management decisions, many within the club describe the job as being Oyston’s ‘right hand man’.

Hide AdAfter long-term secretary Matt Williams headed to Shrewsbury last summer his replacement Chris Hough last just one season after being involved in a number of mishaps.
Alford, who joined from Cardiff City, is believed to be returning to South Wales to take up a role at a Rugby club.
He said: “I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time at the club and worked alongside some terrific people but with my family based in the South and a new opportunity having arisen, the time is right for me to leave,” Alford said.
“I wish the club all the very best for the future and will always keep a close eye on their results.”

Hide AdOyston, who has all of a sudden become vocal after almost a year of silence, said:: “I would like to place on record my thanks to Nick for his hard work and dedication to the role since his appointment in June.
“Although disappointed to lose him, I fully understand his reasons for leaving the club and wish him every success for the future.”
