More off field issues for Blackpool as secretary quits

While at many clubs the role is more of an administration one, at Bloomfield Road it has become key in the set-up.

Chairman Karl Oyston tasks the role with handling some transfer negotiations, club policy and key day-to-day management decisions, many within the club describe the job as being Oyston’s ‘right hand man’.

After long-term secretary Matt Williams headed to Shrewsbury last summer his replacement Chris Hough last just one season after being involved in a number of mishaps.

Alford, who joined from Cardiff City, is believed to be returning to South Wales to take up a role at a Rugby club.

He said: “I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time at the club and worked alongside some terrific people but with my family based in the South and a new opportunity having arisen, the time is right for me to leave,” Alford said.

“I wish the club all the very best for the future and will always keep a close eye on their results.”

Oyston, who has all of a sudden become vocal after almost a year of silence, said:: “I would like to place on record my thanks to Nick for his hard work and dedication to the role since his appointment in June.

“Although disappointed to lose him, I fully understand his reasons for leaving the club and wish him every success for the future.”
