Momentum matters for Fleetwood boss

Fleetwood are on a five- match unbeaten run and have won their last five home games, and now head coach Uwe Rosler wants his side to build on that momentum when Walsall visit Highbury on Saturday.

In addition, eighth-placed Town are only outside the League One play-off zone on goal difference and have kept clean sheets in two of their last three games, so it’s no surprise that boss Rosler is keen to keep their current run going.

Having played out a goalless draw last weekend in the FA Cup second round at Shrewsbury, the German said: “A clean sheet and five games unbeaten – that is what we are looking for and we want to build that momentum.

“We hadn’t had many (clean sheets), so that is a positive thing we are looking at.”

Having taken seven points from three fine league performances against Chesterfield, Shrewsbury and AFC Wimbledon, Fleetwood made a rare bad start against the Shrews at Greenhous Meadow on Saturday.

Rosler accepts that can happen but he demands that his players respond in the right way, which he believes they did at Shrewsbury to secure a replay at Highbury next Tuesday and a second chance to win a trip to Bristol City in the third round.

Rosler said: “I know that I’m at Fleetwood Town and that at times our level of performance can swing a little bit.

“We had been quite steady in the last three games, and in a way I accept that (what happened on Saturday) as long as we are reacting the right way.

“That is what we did in the second half because the first 20 minutes were very poor from our side. In the second half we reacted.

“I think they had a massive chance at the end, but apart from that I think it was a fair result.”
