Mentality mission accomplished for Fleetwood

Fleetwood Town boss Uwe Rosler says his side have proven they have a top-six mentality as they head into the final seven games of the season third in League One.

Rosler, who has been linked to the vacant hot-seat at Championship club Norwich City in the national media, says his side are so high in the table at this stage of the season due to their quality and mental strength.

As they head into the final month of the campaign six points behind second-placed Bolton, Rosler says his men need not to be nervous or to study the table as they prepare to host Swindon on Saturday, having lost only once in 22 league games.

And Rosler says Town now have that top-six mentality he spoke of wanting to install when he took over three days before the start of the season.

The head coach said: “That is why we are where we are – because we have proved that.

“The reason we are there at this stage of the season is because we have very good players and we have a very good mentality in our group.

“Now it is just about not getting nervous, not watching the table and just concentrating on the performance. That is what we are looking for.

“The players will do that. They are a great bunch of players.

“I think this group of players need to look game by game and not too far ahead, and I think that has worked really well so far.”

Rosler has previously guided Wigan into the Championship and Brentford into the League One play-offs, but he said on Sky Sports’ Goals on Sunday programme that he has seldom worked at a club where everyone is singing from the same hymnsheet as is the case at Highbury .

He said: “We have earned the right to be up there. I think that is the beauty of the game that now and then it is still possible that a club like us, with the budget like we have, can achieve something like we are doing.

“To play 22 games with only one defeat does not come by default – that comes from hard work, the quality we have in our squad and the absolute desire to get where we want to be. And that is not only the players – it is the whole club.

“I have seldom worked in a football club where everyone is on the same page. We know where we are, we know where we come from and at the moment we are punching above our weight massively.

“The DNA of the club will not change in the years to come for Fleetwood Town.”
