McDonald positive as Pool hit the buffers

One win in six has seen the Seasiders fall to just one point away from the drop zone, although McDonald is quick to point out his side have lost just two in that spell.

Whichever way you look at it Pool find themselves in their third relegation battle in a row, having been demoted to the third tier last summer.

But McDonald is remaining positive, and believes his side will have enough.

“It’s going to be tight but we need to keep on believing in ourselves and keep on trying to do the right things,” said the boss.

“Certainly we can’t be conceding three goals.

“We were in the bottom four at one stage, and we got ourselves out by playing some really good football.

“We’ve hit the buffers a little bit and conceding far too many goals.

“We should be at least picking up points when we score two goals away from home.”

After a mid-week free of games, Pool welcome Bradford City to Bloomfield Road on Saturday desperate to get back to winning ways.

Three days later they travel to Chesterfield for what could be a six-pointer with the Spirites on level points with the Seasiders.

But McDonald doesn’t seem too concerned, saying: “We’ve been winning games, we’ve just lost on Saturday, that’s only two defeats in five games.

“We are there or there abouts.

“If we defend a little bit better and score goals like we did on Saturday then we’ll deserve to get more out of games.

“We never feel sorry for ourselves, although we always feel disappointed when we lose.

“Some aspects of Saturday’s game were very, very good, I was pleased with a lot of the game.

“For the first time in a long time we didn’t get what we deserved.”

Blackpool will welcome back Uche Ikpeazu on Saturday after the striker missed last weekend’s trip to Swindon.

The Watford loan man has recovered from a hip injury, and played in yesterday’s Lancashire Cup clash against Manchester United at Bloomfield Road.

“Uche had a bit of sore hip and groin,” explained McDonald when asked about his absence last weekend.”
