Luton boss: We need a change in fortune

The sequence, which equals the Hatters’ worst in the Football League since the start of the 2015-16 season, has seen Luton fall from within touching distance of the top three to eight points behind.

On taking a tally of three points from a possible 15, Jones said: “It’s not too worrying, but we have to address that as we’re not winning games.

“We thought we’d go on a run at this point, but what we’ve done is go on a bad run. So we have to address that and that’s a test of me as the manager, test of the players.

“We’ve got games coming up and we’re not panicking in any way, we’ve just got to make sure we have to address it.”

On what needs to be done to get back to winning ways, Jones continued: “We’ve got to concentrate on us.

“I’m more focused on what we do and us getting back to what we do as we’re not doing that at the minute, we’re not consistently doing that.

“We do it for spells, did 45 against Exeter, and then late on against Colchester.

“It was a much better second-half performance after our worst 45 we’ve had.”

Defeat at the weekend, going down 2-1 at Colchester United, saw Luton leapfrogged by Saturday’s visitors to Kenilworth Road, Blackpool, who are currently nine games unbeaten.

Jones said: “Blackpool are level points with us, so it’s a big game again. We’ve got to make sure we don’t get down and worry.

“We’re still in a decent position, it could be better, but it could be far worse.

“We’ve got to make sure we finish strongly and not let it peter out in any kind of way.

“We’ve got to show character, show our ability and have got to get back to what we do. Once we do that, we’re a better side.”

Jones admitted his side deserved to be booed off by their travelling supporters at half time during their 2-1 defeat at Colchester last week.

The 1,775 strong away fans let the Hatters’ players know exactly what they thought of a first half which had seen Luton second best by a long distance, trailing 2-0 to Chris Porter’s double strike.

When asked about the reception at the interval, Jones said: “Rightly so, as they’ve paid good money. We let them down.”
