Blackpool non-league club Squires Gate have parted company with manager Dave McCann and his assistant Richard Thomas following a winless start to the season.

The Marton club are second-bottom of the North West Counties League premier division, having won none of their 10 league games this season.

McCann, who was in his third season as Gate manager, guided the club to a best ever sixth-placed finish last season.

However, Gate has only four draws to show for this season’s first 10 games and the club have stated that McCann’s resignation was accetped reluctantly in the wake of the 4-1 midweek home defeat by Colne.

Club secretary John Maguire will be taking charge for tomorrow’s game at Runcorn Town, assisted by players Mike Hall and club captain Danny Penswick.

The club’s committee expressed its best wishes to McCann and Thomas.
