FLEETWOOD TOWN striker Andy Mangan turned up the heat ahead of this afternoon’s historic clash with Blackpool.

Mangan, who was once on Blackpool’s books, turned to twitter to vent his feelings about comments by Seasiders’ chairman Karl Oyston down-playing the significance of the tie, accusing him of showing a lack of respect.

The source of Mangan’s ire was Oyston’s stated no-show this afternoon, and an interview in which the chairman is quoted as saying: “I don’t think it is a big fixture at all – I think it is just one that has caught people’s imaginations.

“If we had drawn Manchester United, that would have been exciting, but a Conference club isn’t wonderful.

“I can understand why people are getting excited, but if we had drawn any other Conference side, then a word would hardly have been said by supporters.

“Neither club will win the FA Cup, and on that basis I wouldn’t want to get side-tracked or place too much emphasis on it.”

That provoked Mangan to Tweet: “Just read what Karl Oyston has said about the Fleetwood v Blackpool game.

“I find the comments disrespectful and a bit embarrassing.

“Everyone has to start from somewhere.”

Mangan went on to claim that Blackpool fans would prefer to have Andy Pilley as chairman rather than Oyston.

He described Pilley as a “proper fan with a passion for football”, adding: “Let’s see what happens Saturday.”

Fleetwood boss Micky Mellon had his own take on Oyston’s comments.

Mellon joked: “I know Karl Oyston very well – and he wouldn’t get excited about Christmas!

“I thought it was a wee bit strange for Mr Oyston to give me my team-talk before the game – thanks very much!”
