Dean Howell made Fleetwood Town history, scoring the club’s first ever Football League goal as the Cod Army notched up their first win of the campaign at Burton Albion.
Two superb saved from Scott Davies, to deny Justin Richards and Cleveland Taylor, ensured Town were on level terms at the break.
But Micky Mellon’s men, still searching for their first goal in League Two, looked desperately short of ideas up front, an early header from Jon Parkin the best opportunity of a barren opening period.
Burton had dominated for much of the first half, Jacques Maghoma twice coming close to handing the home side the lead.
So it came as some surprise, two minutes after the break, when Fleetwood took the lead, Dean Howell’s free kick almost certainly helped on by a deflection on the way past Ross Atkins in the Brewers goal.
Burton laid siege to the Fleetwood goal, Jacques Maghoma, Billy Kee and Adi Yussaf coming close for the home side.
But the home side were unable to find a way past Davies, Town claiming a hard fought first victory
