Frickley Athletic 0, AFC Fylde 0 (Fylde won 4-3 on penalties)
AFC Fylde won through to their second cup final of the season courtesy of a penalty shoot-out victory over fellow Evo-Stik Northern Premier side Frickley Athletic.
Due to a severe accident on the M62 that afternoon, the squad didn’t actually arrive at the ground until 8.10pm, 25 minutes after the scheduled kick-off time, meaning the start was put back to 8.45pm.
It wasn’t the best of games to watch but Fylde had the better of the chances which weren’t taken.
Frickley pushed for a winner themselves late on but the game finished goalless after 90 minutes and went straight to penalties.
The home side missed their first effort before Adam Sumner, Danny Lloyd, Luke Denson and goalkeeper Ben Hinchliffe all scored Fylde.
It meant that when Frickley missed their final penalty the Coasters were through to next month’s final at Stockport’s Edgeley Park, where they will play the winners of Wednesday’s second semi between Carlton Town and Skelmersdale United.
Fylde boss Dave Challinor made a number of changes to the side that beat Rushall Olympic on Saturday but that did not prevent his side stretching their unbeaten run to 14 games.
