Layton Juniors have built a brighter future

AllStars was invited along when former Blackpool, Manchester City and England star Trevor Sinclair launched the building project in December, and we were delighted to attend last week’s topping out ceremony.

Layton JFC have named the new building at their Moor Park base Borrino’s Place after their general secretary Amanda Borrino, recognising her services to grassroots football and commitment to the project.

The clubhouse includes new toilets, kitchen, clubroom and match officials’ changing room.

It also has an education room, in which the benefits of sport and of football’s Respect campaign will be taught.

In its 11-year history, Layton Juniors have won several accolades for community work and won the Respect and Fair Play Gold Award in 2014, presented at Wembley by FA chairman Greg Dyke.

Layton has 17 teams providing football for young people aged 2-18, and aims to develop U21 and then open age sides in the coming year.

Construction students at Blackpool and the Fylde College gave their time and skills to the project, working tirelessly as part of their work experience.

Club spokesman Paul Precious told AllStars: “These young individuals have made a huge impact to the building, which will be an integral part of Layton Junior FC’s future development and an invaluable asset to the surrounding community. Words cannot express our gratitude to all the students and tutors.”

Ruth Peri, head of the college’s School for Construction, said: “We were delighted to be asked to support Layton Juniors in developing their much-needed clubhouse. The staff and students are fully committed to working with local charities and community groups to provide our expert assistance where possible.

“We are also grateful to the club for giving our students the opportunity to gain valuable work experience on a real-life project.”

Layton Juniors have so far received no grants and wish to thank all their sponsors as well as the local authority.
