The defender, who has signed a two-year deal with the Bantams, was a free agent after his contract at Blackpool came to an end at the start of the month.

Pool were close to sealing a new deal for Mellor last week, but the right back had a last-minute change of heart and opted to sign for his former teammate Michael Collins, who is now in charge at Bradford.

The 27-year-old joined the Seasiders in the summer of 2016 after leaving Plymouth Argyle.

Mellor said: “I am absolutely delighted to be here and cannot wait to get going. It means a lot be a part of such a big club, which is going in the right direction.

“I will bring experience to the team. I have played a fair few games over the years and am hoping to enjoy some good times here.

“I have trained with the squad and it has been fantastic, the lads are buzzing going into Saturday.

“The vibe is good and a talented squad has been put together going into what should be an exciting season.

“The gaffer knows what he wants from us and the players are buying into it in training.

“This is a tough division to be a part of but we are more than capable of doing what we need to do."

When asked about Mellor following Saturday’s friendly at Crewe Alexandra, Pool boss Gary Bowyer failed to hide his frustration.

“How big a blow is it? I think only time will tell in that sense,” he told The Gazette.

“The way it ended up being done by Kelvin himself has not been great to be perfectly honest.”

Mellor made 89 appearances during his time with Blackpool, scoring 14 times.
