Graham Alexander’s men weathered a first half storm before putting on a mature second half display to wrestle back control and claim a point to keep them top of the table.

Ball, in his third season at Highbury, insists things may well have been different in the past, when Fleetwood were prone to over-committing, suffering late setbacks.

He said:”I think the point on Saturday was deserved in the end.

“They were a good side and I think we’d take the point on our display.

“It wasn’t up there with how we have been playing but it shows the character of our group.

“Last year we would probably have gone for the win and conceded at the end.

“It shows how well we work and how we’ve come on as a team.”

Town’s position at the top of the League One table hasn’t gone unnoticed.

Sky Sports visited the club’s training ground last week and the Football League Show were at Highbury on Saturday.

The striker, who scored Fleetwood’s opening goal of the campaign against Crewe believes it’s time people started paying attention to Town’s success.

“I think people should take notice of the club,” he said.

“We’ve got some great young players here .

“We’ve got some really creative talent.

“They should sit up and take notice and tell people how well we’re doing.

“We play some good football and defend well as a group.

“People should take note.”

And the frontman insists a point against the Spireites serves to keep confidence high in the camp.

He said:”It’s a great start for us.

“Really the draw on Saturday keeps the momentum in the group..

“We go on now to the next one.

“Seven days this week gives us a bit of time to get our legs back, get working hard and be ready for Orient.”

Leyton Orient almost made it into the Championship last time around, Wembley losers in the play-off final against Rotherham.

Ball knows the London club have spent well over the summer and expects another test on Saturday.

He said: “They have spent a bit of money, they’ve got investors.

“It’ll be a tough game but we’ll stand here every week and say that.

“If we can play anywhere near the way we have been playing we’ll cause anybody problems.”

The 23-year-old would love to add to his goal tally for the campaign, insisting there’s plenty to come from him.

But in the meantime he’s happy to play provider, as he did for Jamie Proctor last week against Scunthorpe.

“I’m just happy to be out there playing,” he said.

“I know the goals will come for myself.

“As long as I’m creating chances, like I have been doing, I don’t mind.

“I think the gaffer has instilled a real team ethic in us.

“It doesn’t matter who gets goals, as long as we’re scoring and putting points on the board.

“On a personal level I’d love to be getting on the scoresheet.

“I know I’ll get goals over the season in this league.

“But if I can get in with a few assists too, like I did the other night, I’ll be made up.”

Fleetwood Town face Leyton Orient at Highbury on Saturday
