Kan Ince live up to high praise?

Williams has likened the on-loan Brighton and Hove Albion star to N’Golo Kante ahead of tomorrow’s clash.

Ince only arrived at Swindon on transfer deadline day back in January and on Saturday was named man of the match by the sponsors at the County Ground following his side’s 1-0 win over Millwall.

The 24-year-old, who will remain at the club until the end of the season, has added much-needed bite to the Swindon midfield and his ability to break up play has been a key feature of head coach Williams’ recent gameplan.

France international Kante is the best in the business when it comes to ball-winning midfielders, helping Leicester City claim a shock Premier League title triumph last season and now looks on course to repeat the feat with Chelsear.

Williams has been mightily impressed by Ince’s contribution to Town since his arrival and he believes that possession-stealing attribute will go a long way in determining his side’s fate this season.

They head to Fleetwood, battling at the opposite end of the table to their hosts, lying in the relegation zone and four points off safety with just six games remaining.

Williams said: “He has just been remarkable since he turned up.

“I think he has got man of the match again for probably the fourth home game in a row, something like that. He thoroughly deserves it.

“It’s wonderful to see a player so committed to taking the ball off the other team.

“He often takes the ball off the opposition and drives forward and takes territory off them as well.

“He seems to have the same energy in the 90th minute as he had in the first.

“I think that is fundamental to every team, you need to have that.

“Look at Leicester with Kante last season and now at Chelsea.

“I don’t think it is a huge surprise he has got the best defensive midfield stats in the division by a long way.

“I think Rohan is in that ilk and he is improving well all the time.”

Swindon have won three of the nine League One fixtures they played with Ince in the side; in their 31 league games without him, they have seven victories.

Swindon’s director of football Tim Sherwood – who served a two-match stadium ban for a foul mouthed rant at referee Mark Brown at half-time of Swindon’s 1-0 defeat at Bury on February 11 – was not present at the County Ground despite completing that ban.
