Junior desperate for senior action

It’s been a frustrating season for Brown, who missed most of the first half of the campaign with injury, and also sat out last week’s 5-2 drubbing of Mansfield with a calf injury picked up against Forest Green the previous weekend.

But Town’s summer signing, bought to provide competition for Alan Wright at left-back, played the full 90 minutes last night.

And he’s intent on keeping the shirt, even with the veteran former Premier League player fit.

Brown looks to have put his injury woes behind him, and is becoming a firm favourite with the Cod Army.

The 21-year-old former Crewe trainee said: “I’ve had a bit of a stop-start season, but I just need to keep doing my best for the team.

“I picked up a bit of a knock against Forest Green, but that’s bound to happen when you’ve had three months out.

“I feel good now though, and glad I could put a full shift in.”

Wimbledon showed why they started the match top of the table by opening the scoring, yet Brown wasn’t happy with the goal.

He said: “It was a good one-two for the goal, but me andn Sean Clancy haven’t played together before on the left, so perhaps it was a lack of communication between us two. Other than that, though, they didn’t seem to create anything and we should have gone on and won the game.”

As it was, they had to settle for a share of the spoils courtesy of Magno Vieira’s 17th of the season, and the Brazilian’s goals are well appreciated by the full-back.

“Vieira is a like man possessed,” said Brown.

“Anything in the box seems to fall to him. You can’t ask for more than that from a striker.

“Hopefully he can keep getting the goals and we can get promoted.”

Next up it’s Hayes & Yeading at home on Saturday, and Brown is confident, saying: “It’s another vital game, but with the fans behind us, I don’t see why we can’t push on for the win.”

n RECORD signing George Donnelly may still be awaiting his first Fleetwood goal, but the former Plymouth striker has already convinced his new team-mates he is a class act.

Donnelly made his home debut against Wimbledon this week, and club skipper Steve McNulty said: “It just shows what direction the club is going that we can get a player like that.

“All credit to the gaffer and chairman for shelling out and getting him here.

“It’s only his third game, but you can see his quality.”
