United, who appointed Mourinho to succeed Louis van Gaal, have been handed the long trip to the south coast on the opening weekend of the top-flight campaign.

Leicester City start their title defence with a visit to Hull City who won promotion via the Championship play-off final.

Pep Guardiola starts competitive life as Manchester City boss with a home game against Sunderland, while Chelsea – under the stewardship of Antonio Conte – have a London derby with West Ham United.

One of the stand-out games in the opening set of Premier League fixtures is Arsenal’s clash with Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium.
