Fans are expected to pack into Bloomfield Road to see a cortege drive into the stadium and around the pitch at noon, before listening to an audio broadcast of the service half-an-hour later.

The club said the funeral service will also air on BBC Radio Lancashire, and said the Armfield Stand will be opened at 11am 'for supporters to come in and pay their respects'.

It added: "The club kindly asks that supporters initially sit in the front rows of the stand so the Armfield lettering remains clearly visible.

"Once the cortege passes through, the Armfield family kindly asks that supporters remain together in the ground to listen to the service and respect the privacy of those attending at St Peter’s Church.

"Complementary tea and coffee will be available in the stadium, with volunteers on behalf of Trinity Hospice, where Jimmy was President and cared for in his final days, accepting donations."
