Holders’ heroics on Gledhill trail

THERE was a comparatively modest 103 goals scored in the latest round of G Casino Blackpool and Fylde Sunday Alliance matches as some fixtures fell foul of rain, snow and wind.

In the Gledhill Cup, holders Poulton SFC beat Clifton Rangers 6-0 thanks to Sean Simpson, Lee Catlow, Carl Eastwood (2), Stuart Holloway and Daniel Whittaker.

The Division 2/3 Cup brought a far closer contest between Fylde Coast Gates and Kirkham Con Club, who edged it 5-4. Ryan Dodd scored four for the winners, while Zack McGuirk’s double was not enough for FCG.

In the premier division, Blackpool Catholic Club were two up at half-time at home to Blackpool Vets courtesy of David Cram and Jimmy Gillmour. Vets pulled one back to set up an exciting second half only for Cram’s second to seal the 3-1 scoreline five minutes from time.

Blackpool Catholic Club would take a 2-0 interval lead. Bloomfield Vets would score early in second half and the rest of the game would prove to be very tight with the Catholic Club only securing victory in the last 5 minutes with another goal from David Cram which ended the game 3-1.

Sportsworld Media boosted their division one title hopes with a 4-0 victory over 21st Century Windows, Peter Smith scoring two. Blackhurst Budd shocked Chris Allen Garages 5-2 as Darren Moxon and Ben Seear scored twice. Another double came from Michael Evans in Wrea Green’s 3-2 win at Bathroom Solutions.

Craig Frankland fired four in Northern Rags’ 7-2 win over Wilo in division two, while goals by Nathan Fairnie and Robert Nunnen brought FC Rangers victory over Uncle Tom’s Cabin.

Midfielder David McNicol and two-goal Nick Tosh inspired Devonshire Arms to come from behind to beat Mereside FC 2-1 and climb to third, their seventh successive win. Goal doubles too for Aran Cooper in Station Tavern’s 4-1 win over Marton Institute, and for Jordan Holland and Mark Walker as Teamsport 90 defeated No.4 Celtic 5-1.

Kingsfield went top of division three as Chris Casson and Shane Hull scored the goals which beat Hampton Social. Athletico Excelsior swamped Metrostars 9-3 and Jordan Howe fired four in Bispham Hotel’s 7-2 success against visitors Old England.

Fylde Coast Vets continue to roll back the years in division four as Damien Dinsmore scored twice in the 4-1 win over JJ Property Services. Damien Dinsmore added a further 2 goals to his already impressive season total as well as Ben Fenton and Danny Horner netting a goal each. Kyle McAdams netted twice in Victoria’s 4-2 win over Dutton Arms, while there were victories for Marton Athletic and Fire & Ice over Highlands and H&A Social respectively.

Score and Walkabout drew 1-1 and DH Gas v Wesham Town ended goalless.
