Harris: I'll be better with Fleetwood than at Blackpool

The 28-year-old defender arrived at Highbury on loan from Sheffield United yesterday, aiming to help Town climb out of trouble at the bottom of League One.

Harris made his name on the Fylde coast during a two-and-a-half-year spell at Bloomfield Road (2011-14), but he believes he’s kicked on since signing for the Blades.

And the Scot hopes his experience can help Fleetwood between now and the end of the season.

“I think I’m a better player than when I was at Blackpool,” Glaswegian Harris said.

“I don’t think I got a fair crack of the whip at Blackpool. When I did come in I thought I did well.

“But I was left out too often and that’s the reason I went to Sheffield United to get games. I think I’m a better player for it now.

“I’m looking forward to my time at Fleetwood now. The first game tomorrow (at home to Scunthorpe) can’t come soon enough.

“I’ve had a good week training with the lads after coming down on Tuesday, I’ve had double sessions since then.

“It’s about getting some game time now and I can’t wait to get going.”

After playing 57 times for Sheffield United last season, the left-back has found opportunities tougher to come by this term and has had to make do with just seven run-outs so far.

While he has nothing but good things to say about his time at Bramall Lane, Harris simply wants to play games.

He said: “I want to play games but at the same time I want to help Fleetwood.

“The last few years have gone very well at Sheffield United.

“I played in an FA Cup semi-final last year and was in and around the play-offs last season so I’ve played in some really big games there.

“This year has been stop-start and I’ve been fit for a couple of weeks not and not getting in the team.

“So I wanted to come and get some games, and here was perfect.”

Fleetwood slipped into the League One drop zone this week, although they have two games in hand on Shrewsbury, Chesterfield and Blackpool above them.

With that in mind, Harris wants the Cod Army to start winning games, as soon as possible.

“We need to start winning games straight away,” he said.

“We are sitting in the bottom four at the moment so we need to climb the table as quick as we can.

“It’s very close down there, but obviously points will get us out of this.”
