Fleetwood boss Graham Alexander insists he’ll keep pushing his players as the clock continues to count down to their League One kick off.

Town face Crewe Alexandra at Highbury a fortnight on Saturday.

A team from Highbury travels to Victory Park to face non-league Chorley tonight with further friendlies this week scheduled against Skelmersdale (Thursday) and Inverness Caledonian Thistle (Sunday).

Alexander insisted he couldn’t find fault in the way his players had prepared so far after a successful week’s training in Austria.

He said:”The commitment to the work from the players has been fantastic.

“They’ve all put a shift in.

“Not one of them has disappointed us with the work they have put in.

“But it’s all about working towards the start of the season.

“It’s about building up the fitness levels and bringing the mentality up a notch ready for the forthcoming games.”

But the former Burnley and Preston defender made it clear there was plenty more hard work to come, with his players expected to go well beyond their comfort zones.

Alexander said:”It’s vital we use our time wisely and push the lads as far as they can go, sometimes further than they think they can go.

“We need them to realise they can really stretch themselves and improve.

“That’s what we’re trying to do.

“We’re trying to improve each other day in and day out.”
