Grant: Big games bring best out of Fleetwood

Fleetwood midfielder Bobby Grant says Town have a big game mentality that can serve them well in two huge League One matches in eight days against promotion rivals Scunthorpe and Bolton.

Neither of those clubs could take advantage of a home game in hand on Tuesday, when Fleetwood retained their grip on third spot.

Graham Alexander’s Scunthorpe remain above his former club on goal difference after a 2-1 defeat by AFC Wimbledon, with Bolton two points behind in fourth after being held 1-1 by Bristol Rovers.

As Grant prepares to face his old side and his old boss at Glanford Park on Saturday, the 26-year-old says Town have proved they can up their game for the big matches after winning away to leaders Sheffield United and beating play-off chasers Bradford during their mammoth 17-game unbeaten run.

Grant said: “I feel we are a team who play well in big games and I think it is down to the hard work we do in training. This season hasn’t just happened– the manager constantly drills us on the training ground, and when you are doing well and winning you just want the next game to come.

“The manager has a week with us on the training ground to work very hard and we will be ready for Scunthorpe.

“I think we have shown that on our day we can match anyone. We beat Sheffield United away and drew with Scunthorpe.

“We will go into the game full of confidence but we know they are a very good side. Their manager was here and he will know what to expect.

“You’ve got to look forward to these games, and I’m saying to the lads to enjoy this period of their career because you don’t get many runs like this.”
