Good performances key for Kyle

The on-loan Huddersfield man aims to keep delivering good performances - just like his man-of-the-match stint against high-flying Bradford.

Dempsey, 21, sealed a switch to Huddersfield in the summer of 2015 after catching the eye and netting 11 times for Carlisle in their 2014/15 League Two season.

The youngster joined Town on loan at the start of the season and has been predominantly playing on the right of a midfield three.

After another sparkling performance in the 2-1 win over Bradford he wants to keep up his form and perhaps add a goal as Town head into the final 14 games of the campaign fourth in the table and on a 15-game unbeaten run.

Dempsey said: “When I came here I said I would like to add to the goals but as you have seen from my game I’m not in the number 10 role I was in at Carlisle.

“I think, now, it is just keeping on delivering the performances I am delivering and hopefully, if I can get a bit further up the pitch at certain times and get my strikes away, hopefully I can add a few more goals.

“I think it is just (about) enjoying it at the moment, keep at it and keep going for as long as we can.”

Back in December Dempsey left the pitch on a stretcher after a bad Matt Preston tackle left him with a gaping wound on his knee at the end of Town’s 2-1 Highbury win over Walsall.

The injury was not as bad as first feared with the midfielder back in action for the New Year’s Eve win over Oldham.

At first, Dempsey feared it would impact the rest of his season but after coming through a tough few games, he feels he is back flying.

He said: “I think it showed in the first two games in which I played.

“I was a bit off the pace and it was really getting us down because I thought it was going to affect us for the rest of the season but I think as it showed in coming second in the fans’ player of the month, I think I have got back to normal and I’m back flying again.”

There was reported interest from Charlton for Dempsey but he says his aim was – and is – to stay at Town and continue playing under Rosler, a head coach who he says believes in him, as they head into the business part of the season.

He said: “The main objective was to stay here because I’m playing nearly every single game. The gaffer has got good belief in us and that has given me the confidence to deliver good performances week in week out.”
