Fleetwood Town endured a downpour and an onslaught -almost battling their way back against The Brewers.

Graham Alexander’s men could have been a goal up after three minutes, Jeff Hughes heading narrowly wide following a defence-splitting run from Antoni Sarcevic.

But Burton took the lead 12 minute in, Chris Hussey’s cross from the right missed by Adam McGurk, Renee Howe thumping home at the back post.

Fleetwood weren’t faring well on a sticky surface and fell further behind from a set piece.

Hussey’s corner was low and slow, nobody picked up McGurk in the middle, Town in trouble as he slotted the ball low past Davies.

And, ten minutes from the break some poor defending from Fleetwood gifted a third - Howe’s flick on teeing up Hussey, his shot in off the woodwork.

Town looked livelier in the second half, Sarcevic pressing higher to support lone striker Ball.

And a double substitution brought two goals to give Fleetwood hope.

Hughes showed great strength and composure to find the net following a superb run from Gareth Evans.

Then Sarcevic bullied his way to the byline, slipping a ball across for Jamille Matt to claim his first of the season.

Junior Brown, Ryan Cresswell and Ball all had late chances to level but it wasn’t to be - Town suffering their first defeat of the campaign.
