Fleetwood's released keeper tipped for league return

The American keeper joined Fleetwood in February 2015, after graduating from North Carolina University, but never managed to depose Town number one Chris Maxwell.

Maxwell is also heading through the Highbury exit door at the end of the month, when he will join Championship club Preston after his Town contract expires.

But despite Maxwell’s departure, his deputies Moore and Aleks Gogic were both released by Town manager Steven Pressley, who has brought in Chris Neal from Port Vale and the former Leeds shot-stopper Alex Cairns.

Moore was on the bench for Town’s final-day win over Crewe, which saw them retain their League One status, having returned from a successful loan spell at Torquay.

The 24-year-old kept five clean sheets in 12 appearances to help the Gulls avoid relegation from the National League.

Torquay boss Kevin Nicholson is delighted to bring Moore to the south coast on a permanent basis. He said: “I’m very, very happy that Brendan has agreed to come back.

“He plays like a very experienced goalkeeper. His ability to come for crosses, the way he distributes the ball, the confidence he gives to the backline, is something you rarely see at this level. I don’t think we’ll have Brendan for long.

“If he plays to the level he can, he has the potential to play in a higher league.”

Town’s released striker Jamille Matt is believed to be interesting another Devon club, Plymouth Argyle, though Blackpool are among a host of other clubs also linked with the 26-year-old Jamaican.
