His first league goal since December, it saw him move ahead of David Ball at the top of Town’s goalscoring charts with 42.

The win secured three points for the first time in 10 games, notching a first win under Simon Grayson too.

“It’s been a long time coming, it felt like the longest drought of my career,” Madden (pictured) said.

“Thankfully it’s over and thankfully we got back to winning ways. All the lads are buzzing, we needed that lift.

“Long may it continue and hopefully that’s the win that kicks us on.

“I was going to actually square it to Vass (Kyle Vassell) but it was a bobbly pitch and then I thought ‘nah, I’m going to break this record here!’

“The defender came out of nowhere like Usain Bolt, and I don’t think I even meant to scoop it over him, but thankfully it went in so I’m happy.”

After getting back to winning ways, the 30-year-old has his sights firmly set on those teams above Fleetwood in the table.

The Irishman hopes the win can kickstart the second half of Town’s campaign and felt the result showed the squad’s character.

He said: “Results haven’t been going our way and you’re going to go through spells like that.

“What we have in that dressing room is characters, a lot of lads that want to keep doing well.

“You see it every day in training, everyone wants to win all the time.

“We’ve come from a goal down a lot of times and it’s great credit to all the lads, the never-say-die attitude.

“To go 1-0 down to a team like Doncaster, many people might fold with the run they’re on, it just shows the people we have.

“With the run we were on previously, it wasn’t helping us achieve our aims. We’ll just keep ticking those points off.

“I’ve been in the league for five years now and I’ve seen teams come back from worse than ourselves.

“It’s an old cliche but we’ve got to just keep taking it one game at a time, you’ve got to do that now.

“We’re chasing them up there now and it’s up to us to get them looking over their shoulder. We’ll just keep racking those three points up and see where it takes us.”
