Fleetwood Town win in first pre-season friendly

Goals from Ched Evans, Shayden Morris, a trialist and an own goal saw the Cod Army past their Cumbrian counterparts.

Glenn Whelan and Danny Andrew both missed out with minor knocks.

Town's starting XI featured one trialist, with a further three more used from the bench.

One such trialist was Ged Garner, who was released this summer but is trying to earn himself another contract at Highbury.

Garner was the goalscoring trialist and he also created two of the other goals in the game.

Carlisle took the lead early in the game, Josh Kayode slotting past Alex Cairns.

Fleetwood were not without chances, having an effort just prior to the United goal and another just after too.

Chances for Paddy Madden and Ched Evans followed but neither could find the back of the net.

It was the away side with the best opportunity however, with a visiting trialist seeing his effort cleared off the line.

Town would be level though, Evans getting the better of the Carlisle defence to meet a cross into the box.

The parity didn't last long, the League Two side taking the lead before half time, Joe Mellish finding space in the area before finding the bottom corner, leaving Town with it all to do in the second half.

Ged Garner came to the fore in the second 45 and helped his side earn their win.

It was his cross that was turned into the Carlisle net by one of their defenders before he found the net himself, making room for himself in the area before firing past Magnus Norman.

Josh Morris made it four after he was released by Garner, shaking off the attentions of the defence and placing the ball into the corner.
