The 27-year-old comes in to fill the gap vacated by Ched Evans’ departure and, having spent time on the Fylde coast with Blackpool, he feels he’ll be able to settle in quickly at Highbury.

“I’m delighted to be here,” Vassell said.

“It’s been a while and I’ve been close to signing here before but I have until the end of the season to get my head down and play some football and enjoy it as best as I can.

“I know the area well, it’s easy when you’re moving around quite a bit like I am to be familiar with different surroundings and areas.

“It will definitely help. When you know the area you can settle in quicker but being honest, where I am at with my career, I would have gone anywhere really but I’m glad it’s here.

“I just want to enjoy my football. Being here, playing games, hopefully scoring goals and helping my teammates as much as I can – I just want to smile.

“That’s an important thing about football that not a lot of boys do, I haven’t done that for a while and that’s what I want to do.

“When you enjoy it you play your best football.

“When I’m at my happiest, when I’m playing regularly and enjoying my football, I always do perform.”

Vassell is impressed by the teammates he’s coming in to play alongside and is immediately looking at pushing for promotion.

He said: “I was speaking to the boys and the squad is unbelievable on paper, and then training with them today, they’re quality. I’ve come in and the boys want success.

“I’ve come to a team that can definitely push in this league and push for promotion.

“I want to improve every day, it’s a bit cliched and a bit cheesy but I genuinely do.

“I’ve not been happy with myself in the last few seasons and I needed a fresh start.

“It’s not long, it’s only an end of season loan and it sees out my contract but I do want to prove myself.

“I feel like I have a massive point to prove to a lot of people.

“I want to enjoy it, because if I do enjoy it then I’ll do what I need to do.”
